Field Trip: Local Damariscotta Area Bird Walk

May 1 @ 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

Mid-Coast Audubon, emerging from our Covid-dictated inactivity, has decided to recommence spring birding field trips in 2021. There will be safety measures, at least initially. They are as follows:

  • The previously mandated social distancing and mask wearing is required for all attendees.
  • There will be no carpooling unless those wishing to do so have all been fully vaccinated. We will not meet at a central point and carpool to the field trip site, instead will meet at the site.
  • Those participants that have a scope should bring it because sharing of scopes is discouraged.

We will not be eating at restaurants, so trip participants should bring a lunch for all-day trips. In case of inclement weather, people interested in attending should call 207-563-8439 to find out if the trip is cancelled.

Join Trip Leader, Dennis McKenna, as we seek early migrants in two great birding spots near Damarsicotta. At the Great Salt Bay Farm we’ll walk the meadow looking for savannah sparrows and bobolinks, scan the pond for ducks and geese, investigate the forest edges for early migrating warblers and songbirds, and then scan the Great Salt Bay for gulls, ducks, osprey and kingfishers. To start the day, we’ll meet at 7:00 AM at the Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust parking lot at 110 Belvedere Road.

We welcome birders of all skill levels. For more information, or in the event of inclement weather, please call Dennis McKenna at 207-563-8439 (home) or cell 207-522-2891.
