A Chapter of Maine Audubon
Beginning on Christmas Day 1900, ornithologist Frank M. Chapman, an early officer in the then-nascent Audubon Society, proposed a new holiday tradition — a “Christmas Bird Census” that would count birds during the holidays rather than hunt them. Mid-Coast Audubon proudly carries on the tradition of the Christmas Bird Count in three count circles every December.
We welcome all birders for a fun and chilly day of birding, or from the warmth of your home as you watch your feeders. To ensure good coverage in our count areas, we need to plan ahead. To join this count, please call the compiler, Don Reimer at (207) 273-3146 at least one week in advance to inquire about a space on the team and the meeting place.
