
Scholarship Opportunities
Mid-Coast Audubon provides scholarships to programs that help people learn about and experience the natural world. Anyone can apply but precedence is given to students and teachers who are residents of Knox, Lincoln, and Waldo counties. The funds for scholarships are made possible through the generosity of the Jean Hamlin Fund and other donors, with additional funding from the Mid-Coast Audubon general fund.
**Typical scholarship awards range from $250 to $1,000.**
Who is eligible for funding?
- Students (kindergarten through graduate school) who reside within the 3-county area
- Educators who live or work within the 3-county area
What types of programs do we fund?
- Camps – that focus on natural history, environmental conservation, ornithology
- Grants – for academically-based natural history research
- Courses – in-person ornithology/natural history
Examples of Past Scholarships
MCA has funded scholarships for students to attend sessions at the institutions listed below:
- Camp Forest, Brooks, ME
- Camp Mummichog (Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust), Damariscotta, ME
- Hog Island Audubon Camp, Bremen, ME
- Tanglewood 4-H Camp (University of Maine), Lincolnville, ME
- Acadia Institute of Oceanography, Seal Harbor, ME
We welcome applications to attend similar programs that aren’t listed above.
Scholarship Information
- Application must be received at least 30 days before the program start date.
- Applicants are responsible for registering for their event.
- In exceptional circumstances, MCA may award a greater scholarship amount if an application with special funding needs is explained.
- Scholarship awards will be sent directly to the host program, not to the applicant.
- MCA Scholarship recipients are asked to write an age-appropriate report after the event concludes to help inform scholarship program sponsors and donors.
- Additionally, a photo(s) (with caption) of the recipient at their program is/are welcome.
- Please note that a report or photos may be chosen to be used in a future MCA newsletter.
