SUMMARY:Field Trip: Green Point Wildlife Area\, Dresden
DESCRIPTION:A former orchard and farm\, Green Point Wildlife Management Area in Dresden sits at the confluence of the Eastern and Kennebec Rivers. This midcoast birding hotspot hosts a variety of habitats including hayfields and an old orchard\, riverside floodplain forest\, wetlands\, and pine grove. We expect to see a wide variety of birds on this field trip\, with Baltimore Oriole\, Least Flycatcher\, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher expected along with numerous warblers\, sparrows\, raptors\, and waterfowl. We recommend sturdy shoes and long pants for this outing. \nBecause parking is very limited at the wildlife area\, we strongly recommend carpooling. We will meet at the wildlife area at 7 am. \nDirections: On Route 128 (aka River Road) in Dresden\, .8 mile north of the intersection of Indian Road and Route 128. There are two parking lots for Green Point. Please park at the MDIFW maintenance building (large green building with a white door and roof) on the west side of road (coordinates: 44.05753\, -69.77290). \nTo sign up\, please send an email to midcoastfieldtrips at maineaudubon.org with your name and phone number.

SUMMARY:Birds\, Critters and Flora: eBird and iNaturalist
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a visit to the Nelson Nature Preserve in Friendship to look for breeding birds and survey the flora and fauna. Attendees will function as citizen scientists helping Mid-Coast Audubon document the wildlife and plant life on our preserves. We will be using apps on smartphones to record data. If you don’t have a smart phone\, you’re still welcome to join. The group size will be limited to 10 people. \nHalf the group will concentrate on identifying breeding bird behavior and how to use breeding codes on eBird checklists. The other half will identify and document flora and non-bird fauna using iNaturalist. If you have a smart phone\, we recommend having both eBird and iNaturalist accounts (free)\, and the apps installed on your device. Here’s how to get started with eBird\, and how to get started with iNaturalist. \nAll are welcome! You don’t need to be an Audubon member (but we hope you are!) or an experienced naturalist. For questions\, or to sign up\, please send an email to midcoastfieldtrips at maineaudubon.org with your name and phone number. We will send out information about parking and carpooling in advance.
