Join us as we explore this preserve’s varied habitats looking for sparrows\, pipits\, finches\, and waterfowl. We might even get lucky and find some late stragglers in need of extra motivation to fly south! On the right day\, this hotspot can yield over 50 species even in fall (see\, for example\, this eBird checklist). \nDirections: We’ll meet in the preserve parking lot located at 110 Belvedere Rd\, Damariscotta\, ME 04543. This property has a good amount of parking available\, but please consider carpooling if possible. \nAll are welcome! This trip will be led by Justin Guider and Jeff Cherry. Please register for this trip by email (midcoastfieldtrips at maineaudubon.org) with your name and phone number. Registering gives us an idea of how many people will be attending and a way to contact you if we need to cancel or reschedule. You can contact Jeff at the above email or by phone (914-489-7870) if you have questions. Lace up your walking shoes and join us for an unforgettable whirlwind tour of Monhegan Island\, located 10 miles off the coast of Maine. This renowned mid-coast migrant trap is a magnet for migrating warblers and other songbirds. We'll also spot hawks\, falcons\, shorebirds\, and many seabirds from the boat and shore. \nWe’ll be traveling to and from the island using the Monhegan Ferry which departs from Port Clyde at 7:00 AM and returns at 4:30 PM (the trip takes about one hour each way). Attendees must make their own ferry reservations in advance by calling the Monhegan Boat Line at (207) 372-8848 or reserving online. Please plan on meeting at the Monhegan Ferry dock in Port Clyde by 6:30 AM. \nPlan to walk about five miles while we are on the island. Food and drinks are available on the island\, but it can’t hurt to bring some snacks and water. We’ll plan to have a lunch break at The Novelty (good pizza and the only public bathrooms on the island). \nThis trip will be led by Alan Phipps and Jeff Cherry. We are capping this trip at 12 participants because the roads and trails on Monhegan Island are often packed with tourists and shuttles\, making it difficult to lead a big group. To register\, please send an email to (midcoastfieldtrips at maineaudubon.org) with your name and phone number. You can contact Jeff at the above email or by phone (914-489-7870) if you have questions. This event is organized by Wild Ones of Midcoast Maine at the Camden Amphitheater from 9 am to 1 pm. \nFall is the perfect time to add some native plants to your garden. The weather is cooler\, but there's plenty of time for them to put down new roots before winter. You'll be improving the bird and pollinator habitat right where you live! \nThere will be several native plant growers there with amazing plants for sale\, as well as other similar nonprofits with lots of information to share. Hope to see you there! This midcoast birding hotspot hosts a variety of habitats including hayfields and an old orchard\, riverside floodplain forest\, wetlands\, and pine grove. We expect to see a wide variety of birds on this field trip\, with Baltimore Oriole\, Least Flycatcher\, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher expected along with numerous warblers\, sparrows\, raptors\, and waterfowl. We recommend sturdy shoes and long pants for this outing. \nBecause parking is very limited at the wildlife area\, we strongly recommend carpooling. \nDirections: On Route 128 (aka River Road) in Dresden\, .8 mile north of the intersection of Indian Road and Route 128. There are two parking lots for Green Point. Please park at the MDIFW maintenance building (large green building with a white door and roof) on the west side of road (coordinates: 44.05753\, -69.77290). \nThis trip will be led by Will Broussard.
